To Ashley, Hodoo is “the calm in the eye of the storm.” It allows her to feel in control of her life and comfort that she has ancestors backing her up and guiding her through life. Ashley first discovered Hoodoo while in a destructive relationship. She eventually got diagnosed with depression but was able to use Hoodoo to make the depression more manageable. She thanks her ancestors for their help in becoming sober and the many opportunities they have presented for her. She often times finds herself having conversations with her ancestors at her altar.
